Selling your Home in an Economic Downturn

Your home is for sale, unfortunately, it’s still on the market and you don’t want to talk about how long it’s been there. Is there something you can do to speed up the process without losing your shirt?

Interestingly, taking a loss on your house isn’t the easiest answer anyway. What is are those simple things you may have overlooked, those tried-and-true selling points that make an un-eager house shopper interested.

Here they are in no particular order:

  • Simplify your furniture and décor. Take out and put into storage anything too bulky for your rooms. Streamline. Watch house decorating shows if you have to. Less really is more, and that includes taking down photos of your family and getting rid of the clutter on tables and in corners.
  • Spruce up your yard. Keep the lawn mowed and watered, and plant flowers. Color is always good. Get rid of the junk out front. There are many unsure buyers that will merely drive by your house without looking at it if they see a messy looking yard.
  • Have a walk through by video that potential buyers can watch on their home computer or spell it out in recorded details on their radio as they sit in front of your house. They can tune in to get the details of your house without even making a phone call.

Selling your home doesn’t mean investing in new furniture or a new paint job as long as your home looks attractive and clutter free. Make it shine by applying the ideas above.
